(2) Usage of "も"

 Adverbial particle 'too'

副(ふく)助詞(じょし)「も」



The adverb 'also' has the meanings of like, emphasis and parallel.

1.Meaning of the same kind

'I'm good at skipping rope' is changed to 'I'm good at skipping rope too' to add the meaning of being good at something other than skipping rope.


I want that too.

And I want some cake.

Mr Yamada also said he wanted black.



副(ふく)助詞(じょし)の「も」には、1.同類(どうるい)、2.強調(きょうちょう)、3.並立(へいりつ)の意味(いみ)があります。

1.同類(どうるい)の意味(いみ)


「なわとびが得意(とくい)だ」 を「 なわとびも得意(とくい)だ」とすることでなわとび以外(いがい)のものも得意(とくい)であるという意味(いみ)を付(つ)け加(くわ)えています。


私(わたし)もそれほしい

ケーキ も食(た)べたい

山田(やまだ)さんも ブラック がいいって言(いっ)ってましたよ



2.Emphasis.

'It took me an hour to make the transfer at the bank' is used to add emphasis by stating that 'it took me an hour to make the transfer at the bank'.

There's nobody in the classroom.

I don't want to eat anything.

I can't buy anything.


2.強調(きょうちょう)の意味(いみ)

「銀行(ぎんこう)で振込(ふりこみ)を するのに 1時間(じかん)かかった」 を「銀行(ぎんこう)で振込(ふりこみ)を するのに 1時間(じかん)もかかった」とすることで、強調(きょうちょう)の意味(いみ)を加(くわ)えています。


教室(きょうしつ)に誰(だれ)もいません

何(なに)も食(た)べたくないです

何(なに)も買(か)えません



3.Meaning of juxtaposition.

'Both my father and mother' adds the meaning that father and mother are in the same juxtaposition.


My brother and sister both go to work

There are teachers and students in the classroom

English and Japanese are both difficult



3.並立(へいりつ)の意味(いみ)

「父(ちち)も母(はは)も」とすることで、父(ちち)と母(はは)が同(おな)じ並立(へいりつ)だという意味(いみ)を加(くわ)えています。


兄(あに)も姉(あね)も会社(かいしゃ)に行(い)きます

教室(きょうしつ)に先生(せんせい)も学生(がくせい)もいます

英語(えいご)も日本語(にほんご)も難(むずか)しいです
