The National Cat Day website states that the holiday was first celebrated in 2005 "to help the public recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. The day was founded by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert, who was supported by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which is a nonprofit pet adoption organization.

この日はアメリカとカナダで2005年にできたそうです。毎年（まいとし）保護（ほご）される猫（ねこ）の数（かず）を人々（ひとびと）に認識（にんしき）させる日です。この日は、ペットと家族（かぞく）のライフスタイルの専門家（せんもんか）であるコリーンペイジによって制定（せいてい）されました。非営利（ひりえき）のペット団体（だんたい）であるアメリカ動物（どうぶつ）虐待（ぎゃくたい）防止（ぼうし）協会（きょうかい）の支援（しえん）を受（う）けています。

In Japan, Cat Day is celebrated on February 22, as the date resembles the words "nyan nyan nyan" (meow meow meow).  It is celebrated with people posing with photographs of themselves with their pet cats, resutaurant serve cat-themed cuisine and the businesses selling of pet foods/ goods. 

日本では、2月22日に猫（ねこ）の日が祝（いわ）われます。日付（ひづけ）は「ニャーニャーニャー」（ミャオ、ミャオ、ミャオ）という猫（ねこ）がなく音（おと）からきています。 ペットの猫と一緒（いっしょ）に自分（じぶん）の写真（しゃしん）でポーズをとる人々（ひとびと）や猫（ねこ）をテーマにした料理（りょうり）を出す（だす）レストラン、ペット商品（しょうひん）のセールなどでこの日は祝（い）われます。

Ingredients (for 4-5 people)
＝Sauce / Warishita＝

● Soy sauce 1 / 2cup (115g)

● Mirin 1 / 2cup (115g)

● Cooking Sake 1 / 2cup (100g)

● 4 tablespoons of sugar (36g)

● Dashi no Moto (granule) 1 teaspoon (4g)

●醤油（しょうゆ）1/2cup(115g)

●みりん　　　　　1/2cup(115g)

●酒（さけ）　　　1/2cup(100g)

●砂糖（さとう）　大さじ４(36g)

●だしの素（もと）（かりゅう）小さじ１(4g)

■ Ingredients

2 onions

Beef (thin sliced for sukiyaki) 400-500g

1/4 Chinese cabbage

1 carrot

1 bag of shirataki noodles

1 yaki-dofu

1 bag of enoki mushrooms (etc.)

2 Shiitake dry one

焼き豆腐（やきどうふ）　　１丁（ちょう）

作り方（つくりかた）

　　　
　　　　　　　

Cut all the vegetables of the ingredients.

材料（ざいりょう）の野菜（やさい）をすべて切（き）っておきます。

Combine all the ”warishita” ingredients. 

Heat them until it boils. Once it boils turn off the fire immediately.

割り下（わりした）材料（ざいりょう）を全（すべ）て合（あ）わせる。

ひと煮立て（ひとにたて）させ、火（ひ）を止（と）めておく。

Pan-fry the onions. It's OK if it is fragrant and browned.

Add about 1/3 of the beef and pan-fry. If the color changes fragrantly and roughly. Add the remaining ingredients and warishita, cover and simmer. It's OK when the carrots are cooked.

たまねぎと豆腐を焼（や）く。焼（や）き色（いろ）が茶色（ちゃいろ）になればOK。牛肉（ぎゅうにく）の約（やく）1/3の量（りょう）を加（くわ）え入（い）れて焼（や）く。こうばしく、ざっと色（いろ）が変（か）わったら残（のこ）りの具材（ぐざい）と割（わ）り下（した）を入（い）れて蓋（ふた）をして煮（に）る。人参（にんじん）に火（ひ）が通（とお）ったらOK。

Just boil water in another pot, add eggs and leave for 12 minutes.

Do not cover the pot. Bring the water to a boil in a pot and add the required amount of eggs. Immediately after that, set the fire.

別（べつ）のお鍋（なべ）にお湯（ゆ）を沸（わ）かして、お鍋（なべ）で水を沸騰（ふっとう）させたら、そこに必要量（ひつようりょう）の卵（たまご）を入（い）れます。そのあとすぐに火をけします。卵（たまご）四つをいれて１２分（ふん）放置（ほうち）する。お鍋(なべ）に蓋（ふた）は、しないでください。

This egg is called as "hot spring egg" (onsen tamago), and dip the meat/vegetable into such egg. Enjoy sukiyaki.

この温泉卵（おんせんたまご）にお肉（にく）をつけて食（た）べます。

If you finish the meat, then add the remaining beef into the pan and pan-fry.

残（のこ）りの牛肉（ぎゅうにく）を入（い）れて煮（に）る。火が通（とお）ったらできあがり。

It’s delicious you put udon in the last remaining warishita, to pan-fry.

最後（さいご）に残（のこ）った割（わ）り下（した）にうどんを入（い）れるとおいしいです。
