日本語(にほんご)弁論大会(べんろんたいかい)スピーチ

みなさんこんにちは!Vysloužilová Terezaと申(もう)します。

今日(きょう)は私(わたし)の夢中(むちゅう)になっていることを紹介(しょうかい)したいと思(おも)います。日本(にほん)の文化(ぶんか)の大切(たいせつ)な一部(いちぶ)である文学(ぶんがく)についてです。

Japanese Speech Contest ”Benron Taikai Speech”

Hello everyone! My name is Vysloužilová Tereza.

Today I would like to introduce what I am obsessed with. It is about literary studies, which is an important part of Japanese culture.

私(わたし)は小(ちい)さいころから本(ほん)を読(よ)むのが大好(だいす)きでした。なぜなら、本(ほん)を読(よ)むことで様々(さまざま)な世界(せかい)を訪(おとず)れたり、面白(おもしろ)い人物(じんぶつ)や勇敢(ゆうかん)な人物(じんぶつ)に出会(であ)ったりできますし、現実(げんじつ)の世界(せかい)を一瞬(いっしゅん)だけでも忘(わす)れることができるからです。

I have loved reading books since I was little. This is because by reading books, you can visit various worlds, learn about interesting people and brave people. This is because you can meet interesting people, and you can forget the real world even for a moment.

中学生(ちゅうがくせい)の時(とき)、いつものように図書館(としょかん)に行(い)って、次(つぎ)に読(よ)む本(ほん)を探(さが)していたときに、村上春樹(むらかみはるき)という作家(さっか)の作品(さくひん)を見(み)つけ、「誰(だれ)だろう?」と気(き)になりました。その時(とき)から、私(わたし)は日本(にっぽん)の文学(ぶんがく)に興味(きょうみ)を持(も)つようになりました。

When I was in junior high school, I went to the library as usual and looked for the next book to read. When I was doing it, I found a work by a writer named Haruki Murakami, and I wondered who it was. I was curious. From that time on, I became interested in Japanese literature.

残念(ざんねん)ながら、チェコでは日本(にっぽん)の文学(ぶんがく)はぜんぜん人気(にんき)がなく、学校(がっこう)でも中国文学(ちゅうごくぶんがく)については学(まな)ぶのに、日本文学(にほんぶんがく)については学(まな)ぶ機会(きかい)がありません。

Unfortunately, Japanese literature is not popular at all in the Czech Republic, and Chinese literature is taught at school. However, I do not have the opportunity to study Japanese literature.

In my opinion, there are two differences between Western literature and Japanese literature.

First, in Japanese stories, the depiction of characters is deep, and it is possible to understand their feelings and actions according to their personalities.

On the other hand, in the case of Western stories, the personalities of the characters are not very realistic, making sympathy and understanding difficult.

Next, regarding stories, in Japanese literature, deep meaning is hidden even if action and romance are rarely mentioned. I have a lot of things to do, and it's fun for me to think about them.

On the other hand, in Western literature, there are many cases where only actions and romances are depicted.

Last summer, I sent a fan mail to Ms Hiromi Kawakami and received a reply. In the message, there was a sentence explaining my thoughts.

'Words bring distant beings closer together.'

These words really mean a lot to me.

The 'existence' that Professor Kawakami refers to is not only about real people. It also includes characters and knowledge that exist in the past, in the future or in fiction.

In other words, I have a new understanding that by reading books, I can acquire knowledge and improve myself.

I have one wish for you all. That is, I want you to understand the beauty of Japanese literature.

There are not many Japanese works that people who are not good at English can choose from. However, recently there have been some works translated into Czech.

Please give it a try.

Thank you very much for listening.
