In Japan, hanko are needed in a variety of situations. Not only when submitting documents to the municipal office or opening an account at a bank, but also for simple tasks such as receiving a parcel delivery or stamping a confirmation when you see a document at work. There are hanko (stamp) shops in town that sell hanko with a variety of surnames for several hundred yen. If the name is that of a foreigner, the stamp is made to order. Depending on the material and size of the stamp, the price starts at around 2,000 yen. However, since the government and banks are different, you may need a hanko at a moment's notice. Recently, there are services that make hanko for foreigners using letters of the alphabet, katakana, kanji, and other characters of their choice, so some foreigners try to make their own hanko even if it is not necessary for daily life.
